Dr. Michael Owusu – cfhss (1)

Dr. Michael Owusu is the Executive Director of the Centre for Health Systems Strengthening (CfHSS) and a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He obtained PhD in Clinical Microbiology through a collaboration with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Institute of Virology, University of Bonn Medical Centre, Germany. He has 15 years of experience in laboratory practice and biomedical research. His research arears include viral zoonosis, microbial genomics and epidemiology of epidemic prone infectious diseases. He is one of the co-lead scientist in virology diagnostics at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine and contributed immensely towards supervision and laboratory diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2.

Being the Executive Director of CfHSS, he has led various projects including capacity building for public health laboratories and improving health security through the Global Health Security Agenda.

Dr Owusu has published over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to 4 book publications. He is the Board Member of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and a member of the Board of Reviewers of the American Society of Microbiology.
